Welcome to the official website of the Grosse Pointe South High School Band and Orchestra! Our instrumental music program has a long tradition of musical and educational excellence, and that tradition is now being furthered into the 21st century with exciting new opportunities and experiences for students. We offer a comprehensive curricular program including four performing ensembles: Concert Band, Concert Orchestra, Symphony Band, and Symphony Orchestra. We offer a number of co-curricular performing ensembles: Full Orchestra, Pit Orchestra, Jazz Band, Pep Band, and chamber ensembles. Our music department offers a range of auxiliary classes as well, including Music Technology I-III, Music Theory I-IVAP, and Beginning Piano. Over the past ten years, our bands and orchestras have earned the highest ratings at regional, national, and international music festivals. We have performed in Chicago, New York, Orlando, Toronto, and London, England. We have performed at the University of Michigan, Western Michigan University, Wayne State University, and the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids. We have performed on some of the Detroit area’s most prestigious stages, including the Max M. Fisher Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall, Detroit Institute of Arts Auditorium, and Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts. Our students have collaborated with some of most highly-regarded musicians in the Detroit area, including artists and teachers from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Michigan Opera Theatre, Detroit Chamber Winds, Fisher and Fox Theaters, University of Michigan, Wayne State University, Oakland University, University of Toledo, Illinois Wesleyan University, and others.
